Matt Stubbs
Hailing from a small New England
town, Matthew Stubbs is quickly gaining
a reputation as one of the premier Blues guitarists. Whether performing
with
his own band or as a sideman to some of the best singers in the
business the
25 year old always delivers a mesmerizing performance. Matthew performs
over 200 shows a year across North America, and when not on tour,
splits his
time between Los Angeles, CA and New England.
Matthew led his own band, The Matthew Stubbs Band, to a first place
finish in the Boston Blues Society Blues Challenge. He followed
that success with a third place finish at the International Blues
Challenge
in Memphis, TN. The exposure that these accomplishments earned the
young
Stubbs was immense. The sought after guitarist soon joined many of
today’s
blues greats on stage.
Matthew has been on the road with R&B Sensation John
Nemeth, as well as touring with West legend Lynwood Slim.
Before that he spent a year and a half touring North America
with
Diva Janiva Magness.
Currently Matthew is playing with The Charlie Musselwhite Band.
Matthew has also earned himself a reputation for his ability to write
unique and catchy instrumentals. The songs which he composes are a
blend of
Blues, R&B, Surf, Rock n Roll and Groove, all perfectly mixed together.
His real knack is being able to blend all of these styles without
overwhelming the listener. Blues guitarist Rick Holmstrom sums it up
best:
"The thing I like best about Matt Stubbs playing is that he leaves
space.
There are plenty of young blues guitarists who can play a whole lot of
guitar, and Matt can hang with 'em all, but there are very few who
understand that it's important to let it breathe. I dig the economy
and
simplicity of Matt's playing. He's got an old soul."
